Relocating FM4 was mastered fast and smoothly
“Reaching new heights“ - Since 2019, that has been the motivation of ORF’s radio station. November 25 marks the day when they aired their program from the new FM4 studio complex at the ORF centre Küniglberg in Vienna for the first time. Above 100 employees are looking forward to work with future-proof devices and new ergonomic facilities. It is the perfect environment to cope with todays demands of producing a high quality radio program. Thum + Mahr got the assignment for the system integration and the supply of the DHD.audio infrastructure. A team of experts by Thum + Mahr accompanied the relocation from January to October 2019 and supported FM4 with deep know-how gained over many years. ”It definitely has been a challenge to realize this project in a relatively short time“, explains Thomas Brinkhoff (Chief Project Manager Thum + Mahr). Furthermore he states: ”However our teamwork with the colleagues from ORF is excellent, so at the end all tasks were accomplished quick and without any difficulties. The result verifies our joint achievement and the new ambience is a great showcase for a state-of-the-art radio station“.
Linked IP- and control-based infrastructure by DHD.audio enables the radio of today and tomorrow

ORF and Thum + Mahr share a strong partnership for over a decade
The relocation of the FM4 studios in 2019 to the Küniglberg in Vienna is one of numerous good examples to point out the range of successful projects that ORF and Thum + Mahr successfully completed together. Since 2005, the close cooperation between both parties exists. ”The exchange and assignments with the ORF are functioning very well“, mentions Stefan Mertens (Chief Strategy Officer Thum + Mahr). In addition to that he says: ”In many cases we were able to demonstrate that together with the ORF we are able to shape the future of broadcasting in terms of digital, sustained and efficient implementation. We congratulate FM4 on their 25th anniversary this year and wish them a lot of success with the production of their program at the new location.
